Wartenberg is between Erding (13 km) and Moosburg (8 km) on the eastern edge of the Munich gravel plain. Around 1105 came the Wittelsbach Counts Palatine in possession of various goods and lands to Strogn and Sempt and built on the site of a well already in the 10th or 11 Century existing fortification to 1116/17, a castle on the “monte Wartenberc”. Pèlerinage National Belge de Septembre Notre-Dame de Lourdes. Pilgrimage to Lourdes France, Medal taking part in a pilgrimage to Lourdes.

Lourdes is the largest Catholic pilgrimage center since a French girl of fourteen, Bernadette Soubirous, saw a lady claiming to be the Immaculate Conception, four years after the proclamation of the dogma of the Immaculate Conception by Pope Pius IX. The apparitions began February 11, 1858 in the small cave of Massabielle, near the village, along the Gave de Pau and lasted several months. In total, Bernadette claimed to have seen eighteen times the Virgin. After investigation, the Catholic Church has recognized these apparitions 18 January 1862. These events occur during the reign of Napoleon III, Empress, ultramontane Catholic, being acquired Marian devotion. Died in 1879 in Nevers, Bernadette Soubirous – who had entered the Sisters of Charity of Nevers – was canonized in 1933.
The town of Lourdes has welcomed many pilgrimages, great asset to the local economy. (Source: Wikipedia)
