Handmade Broom.

Old Farmers tool. Handmade Broom from the Bohemian Forest. Germany.

In the winter months, the farmers had time to cultivate or produce tools. In this picture, a broom can be seen. For this thin twigs of birch were used. The wires can be seen here are recent. Original thick birch twigs were used. The technology of production is unchanged over the centuries. These brooms were used to clean the yard of the farm or stables. Not seen in the picture is the long handle of the hazel wood was inserted on top of the tied end.

Handmade leather belt for Bull`s Chest

Antique leather strap. Farmers Tool. Handmade Leather Belt. Old Bavarian craft.

Leather strap

On a trip to the Bohemian Forest, the border mountains between Bavaria and the Czech Republic, i had the opportunity to visit an old farm house. The stables and barns were still in their original state. In it, I found old objects which the farmers of the area itself partly manufactured or purchased by local craftsmen. These tools and objects reveals ancient craftsmanship. This skill in the production is unfortunately gone. I am glad that I can imagine in the following contributions, some of these wonderful tools.

Antique handmade leather belt, strap for Bull`s Chest

I start with this leather belt. He was part of a bridle for steers. The material is leather. Partially double folded and stitched with animal sinew. The belt was placed around the bull’s chest and then fixed by an iron ring on the shaft of the wagon or plow. He had to cope with a high tensile strength.
