Juliette Greco was born in 1927 in Montpellier, is a French chanson singer and actress. She`s called the Grande Dame de la Chanson and is considered the muse of French existentialists. Her mother was active during the Second World War in the French Resistance.
In 1946, she opened in Paris bohemian district of Saint-Germain des Prés, the basement discotheque “Tabou”, which became a legendary meeting place of the existentialists. At their regular guests included Jean-Paul Sartre, Orson Welles and Marlene Dietrich. There she was discovered and promoted by Jean-Paul Sartre. Her songs such as Si tu t’imagines or L’Éternel féminin were in the late 1940s to hits. Writers like Sartre, Francoise Sagan, Jacques Prévert, Francois Mauriac or Albert Camus wrote for her texts. From 1966 to 1977 she was married to the French actor Michel Piccoli.
